This month marks the start of an exciting new programme of support to involve residents in our work.
We will soon be launching our new Residents Academy, which provides an opportunity for residents to increase their knowledge of housing and how the scrutiny process works, strengthening their capacity to hold us to account as well as gaining a recognised qualification which can be attractive to employers.
Equivalent to a GCSE, the qualification is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and will be delivered online by our Learning and Development team who have developed the training package in partnership with members of our Co Regulation team.
To start with, seven residents will be taking part, including members of Sanctuary’s National Residents’ Scrutiny Panel (NRSP) and we’ll be looking to expand the opportunity more widely in the future for residents who want and need this training.
This will also provide an opportunity for courses for staff to be accredited by the CIH.
Wendy Burridge, Chair of the NRSP, said: “This is such a welcome opportunity and one residents have been calling for in recent months.
“By knowing as much as possible about the housing sector we are both informing ourselves and supporting Sanctuary to deliver quality services.
“It also gives residents a qualification to engage with and aspire to, as well as something they can proudly put on their CVs.”
