Liverpool residents record local heritage for Memory Lane project

16 June 2014

Families are sharing their stories for social history project Memory Lane, thanks to a generous donation from Sanctuary Housing’s Grand Ideas Fund.

Memory Lane, organised by community group Health on the Agenda, is restoring the local history of Liverpool by encouraging families and local businesses to share their personal stories for future decades to look back on.

All memories are being collated together to paint a celebratory picture of Liverpool’s heritage on one website. Health on the Agenda is supporting residents to remember as many memories as possible, by providing visual and audio stimuli, including songs from ‘back in the day’.

Amanda Meaghan, director of Health on the Agenda, said: “Memory Lane is locking in on the growing trend of social media and the love of sharing for the good of the local community. The social history project is capturing stories that are important to the neighbourhood and improving history for the local area.

“We hope that Memory Lane will encourage residents and families to share their stories on local heritage. It is important to share what we know and let the song in our heart be heard. We hope as many residents as possible will get involved – it’s never too late to share your family’s story.”

Christa Ripley, Sanctuary’s head of housing operations in the North West, added: “What a creative idea to help boost history in the local area, it’s marvellous our Grand Ideas Fund was able to support this. Well done to all residents who have so far been involved, I can’t wait to hear your stories.”
