An aspiring netball team from Rayleigh have been given an extra spring in their step thanks to funding from a leading housing provider.
The Rayleigh Rockets will be sure to look the part when they take to the court for matches after being provided with a brand new kit by Sanctuary Housing.
It is the latest step on the road to success for the team, which was formed in 2014 when a group of local mums got together to play netball.
United by a love for a sport many of them first played during their school days, the team has continued to grow despite sponsorship being difficult to find.
The Rockets provide opportunities for local women to play netball regularly and they are always keen to welcome new members to the squad.
Sanctuary’s resident involvement officer, Chris Silvey, said: “The Rayleigh Rockets provide an important outlet for local women wanting to participate in a popular sport and we are happy to support them with this.”
Rayleigh Rockets representative Lisa Swallow added: “There is a real sense of pride of playing in a smart kit and the team is thrilled with how it looks. We look forward to enjoying plenty of success as a result.”
Sanctuary Housing supported the Rayleigh Rockets through its Maureen’s Gift fund, which gives donations to charities, resident groups and voluntary organisations in need of financial help to deliver community activities. It was set up in 2011 in memory of local community champion Maureen Vince.
