New girls’ football team kicks off in Torquay

1 November 2017

Watcombe Wanderers Football Club (WWFC) in Torquay is calling for new members for the brand new girls’ team to mark Community Impact Week 2017.

Girls only

Funded by Sanctuary Housing, WWFC launched the female-only team earlier this year and the club is marking Community Impact Week by urging young females aged 8-13 to come along and join in the sporting fun.

Third under 13s squad

The girls’ team is the third under 13s squad for WWFC, with last year seeing the creation of the initial two teams through previous funding from Sanctuary. During 2016, the project helped more than 30 young people to develop their sporting abilities and build up important skills in teamwork and self-confidence.

“A positive difference”

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Lynne Roberts, commented: “Community Impact Week has given us a fantastic opportunity, not only to encourage local young females to join the new team, but also to celebrate the positive difference the project has made to many young people’s lives.”

Come along

Community Impact Week 2017 runs from 6-12 November and is an opportunity to celebrate the innovative projects and programmes run by housing associations that help to transform lives and communities.

This project is funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
