Torbay parents are getting a helping hand to keep active following the launch of new Zumba classes with a free crèche.
The exercise dance classes are funded by Go For It sponsor Sanctuary Housing as part of its Love Sport programme.
Two exercise classes a week are open to all residents at St Peter’s Centre, in Queensway, Torquay, but also come with a free crèche that will allow parents, grandparents or carers taking care of young children not to be restricted from exercising.
Chelston Action Group is hosting the hour-long Zumba sessions that take place from 10am to 11am every Monday and Friday and cost just £3 a session.
Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class for all levels and abilities which has soared in popularity in recent years as it is a fun, lively way to get active to a soundtrack of Latin, world and pop music.
Michael Howarth, Sanctuary Housing’s neighbourhood partnerships officer for Torbay, said: “It’s not always easy for people caring for children to take part in exercise classes if they can’t find childcare, but by having a free crèche, we hope it will encourage those residents to get active in these new fun Zumba classes.”
Sanctuary’s nationwide Love Sport programme, a partnership with Sport England, aims to engage more than 2,250 people in sport and fitness activities in neighbourhoods across the country.
Sanctuary’s investment in the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sport and activity sessions.
