Nominations open for Hackney community awards

11 January 2016

Know a local champion who has made a real difference to your community? Has a neighbour gone out of their way to help someone you know? Make sure you nominate that special person in the Sanctuary in Hackney Community Awards 2016.

The annual Awards, led by Sanctuary Housing, celebrate the achievements of friends, neighbours, volunteers, and community groups that have made a positive difference to their community.

Residents can nominate in six categories; Young Person of the Year; The Valerie Forde Good Neighbour Award; Contribution to Sport; Green Hero; Community Spirit and Partnership.

Nominations can be made online, by emailing hackney.awards@sanctuary-housing.co.uk, or by picking up a form from the local Sanctuary office on Kingsmead Way. You can also follow updates at #HackneyAwards.

Last year’s awards were hosted by MTV Base presenter and DJ, Kat B, with winners including Richard Ntaka for his partnership work arranging a street party for residents; Cedric Hall awarded with the Green Hero award for transforming an unused space; and all members of the Concorde Youth Club scooping the Young Volunteer accolade for their efforts in bringing the community together.

An awards ceremony is planned for March 2016 at Hackney Town Hall and nominees will be notified after the closing date of 31 January.
