Lots of colourful fun is in store for older residents in Chester as Sanctuary Housing holds its annual Purple Day celebration.
The free event, now in its ninth year, is open to everyone and is taking place at The Venue, at Lache Community Centre, Chester, from 10am-3pm on Tuesday 10 October.
Purple Day is an annual celebration for older people, offering the chance to socialise, don colourful attire and get into the party spirit.
Entertainment and activities on offer include tombola, a raffle, bingo and an armchair exercise taster session, while there will also be a special performance from Senior Armchair Theatre (SAT), part of Sanctuary’s Group of Older People living in Sheltered Housing (GOSH Enterprises).
Visitors will also be able to get online using iPads, enjoy a game of darts or pool, or tuck into tasty free refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee.
Local organisations such as Age UK and Deafness Support Network, along with Sanctuary’s maintenance and telecare teams, will be on hand to offer advice to residents and free transport to and from the event can be arranged for residents otherwise unable to get there.
Maggi Dempsey, Sanctuary’s resident involvement officer, said: “Purple Day is very popular with our residents and it is always wonderful to see people coming together to celebrate and have fun.
“We hope to see as many people as possible join us this year and would like to say a big thank you to the GOSH group, who work so hard to make Purple Day such an enjoyable occasion.”
This project is funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
