Young people from across Rochford got fit and healthy in the great outdoors, thanks to a generous donation.
The award of nearly £500, from Rochford Housing’s Maureen’s Gift Fund, saw 28 youngsters aged 10-15 from local KAOS youth club pay an exciting visit to Belchamps Scout Activity Centre, Hockley, for a fun-filled stopover last month where they took part in activities aimed at improving health and wellbeing.
Alongside the opportunity to build up their fitness levels, the youngsters developed a range of important skills such as self-confidence, team working and leadership, as well as making a host of new friends.
Chris Silvey, Rochford Housing’s resident engagement officer, said: “KAOS youth club is a really popular venue for local young people, with around 55 attending each session.
“At Rochford Housing we want to be able to support residents of all ages so it’s great that we’ve been able to pay for the youngsters to attend this valuable retreat through Maureen’s Gift.”
Darren Parsons from KAOS youth club added: “Everyone who came along had a fantastic time and the youth club members picked up some really useful skills. We’re very grateful to Rochford Housing for the funding, without it this trip wouldn’t have been possible.”
Maureen’s Gift funding supports charities, resident groups and voluntary organisations in need of donations to help deliver community activities. It was set up in 2011 in memory of local community champion and former chairperson of the Rochford Housing Association board, Maureen Vince.
