Rochford residents bowled over by skittles donation

15 September 2016

Residents at a Rochford retirement living complex struck it lucky with a donation to renew their ageing skittles equipment.

The active group of older people at Millview Court in Lever Lane, Rochford, look forward to their weekly games but regular meetings over the past five years have taken their toll on the wooden balls and pins.

Thanks to a £200 donation from Rochford Housing via its Maureen’s Gift fund, the residents can now swing into action with the new equipment to the sound of music as funding also went towards the purchase of a new CD player for the scheme.

Josie Hart, Rochford Housing scheme manager at Millview Court, said: “The residents of Millview Court enjoy taking part in a range of community activities such as skittles so this donation has given them a real boost and will allow them to continue meeting each week.”

Maureen’s Gift funding supports charities, resident groups and voluntary organisations in need of donations to help deliver community activities. It was set up in 2011 in memory of local community champion and former chairperson of the Rochford Housing board, Maureen Vince.
