Youngsters aged 8-12 from around Rochford district are invited to get involved in motivational project Body, Mind and Soul – delivered by Rochford Martial Arts Academy and funded by Rochford Housing – where they will be taught a combination of kung fu, tai chi and meditation.
The sessions are aimed at helping the young attendees develop the confidence, judgement and physical skills they need to stay safe, and to understand the consequences of getting caught up in negative behaviour.
The 12 training sessions will take place weekly on Wednesdays from 7 September, running from 6-7pm, at Rochford Martial Arts Academy, Unit 2C Swaines Industrial Estate, Leecon Way, Rochford SS4 1RG. Places are limited and anyone who is interested can book a space by calling Rochford Martial Arts Academy on 01702 808262 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rochford Housing’s managing director, Emma Keegan, said: “This is a fantastic community-led project that is set to give Rochford young people a valuable opportunity to build up important life skills.
“I would encourage youngsters living in Rochford to get their place booked!”
Gavin King from Rochford Martial Arts Academy added: “Rochford Housing has donated £1,000 for us to deliver these sessions, which Rochford Martial Arts Academy has match-funded, and we’re really looking forward to passing on these vital skills to local young people.”
