Rural Housing Week - Jubilee Close, Kilkhampton

3 July 2017
The Jubilee Close development in Kilkhampton, near Bude.

This £2.4 million development has gone some way to addressing the need for affordable homes in the Cornish village of Kilkhampton, near Bude.

The 22 new homes, which are a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes, were built with the aim of providing a range of high quality affordable homes that would allow local people to stay close to their families and friends in the village, be part of the community they grew up in and help to protect the sustainability of the village.

With its rural location and coastal views, Kilkhampton has become a very desirable place to live – but like so many local villages in Cornwall, became out of reach for many of those who were born and bred there, with values over 10 times the average local income.

Located just off Jubilee Close, the homes were developed by contractors Markey Construction and part-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Rural Housing Week 2017 (3-7 July) aims to highlight rural housing issues and to showcase housing associations’ innovative solutions for tackling them, supporting rural communities through providing affordable housing.
