A Sanctuary Housing employee will hit the ground running as he prepares for his first marathon, raising money for a local Hertfordshire charity.

Craig Davey, landscape technician from Ely, will be pounding the streets of the capital in April when he joins thousands of other participants for the 2015 London Marathon.

Formerly from Hertfordshire, Craig will be racing to raise money for the Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF). The foundation exists to tackle need and deprivation in Hertfordshire through funding small community groups for the benefit of local people.

Craig’s groundwork for the race has been miles covered on the treadmill, and intensive training with his friend who will also be trying to get a view of the finish line in London.

Family and friends have also rallied round to help reach the fundraising target of £1,500, with quiz nights and raffles taking place in the lead up to the event.

Craig commented: “I watch the London marathon on TV each year and I have always thought that it would be amazing to run it.

“In the last couple of years I have really got into my running and I completed the Great North Run last September, but I’ve never done a marathon before, so I’m a bit nervous!”

Tracey Spencer, Sanctuary Housing’s operations manager for the East, added: “It’s great to hear that one of our team is taking part in such a renowned event, raising money for a local charity. We wish him the best of luck.”
