Sanctuary take part in Big Knit and help keep Cherwell warm

A group of Sanctuary Housing knitters in Cherwell have been busy creating miniature hats, as they help to raise money for Age UK Oxfordshire in the Innocent Big Knit.

Dozens of hats were created by the Sanctuary knitters for the national campaign, launched by Innocent and Age UK in 2003. Each hat will be given away with the purchase of an Innocent smoothie; 25p from each behatted smoothie sold goes to Age UK.

As part of Sanctuary’s on-going partnership with Age UK Oxfordshire, which works with and for older people in the region, the team at the Bodicote office launched a knit and natter group to help raise money for the campaign.

The participants of the knit and natter group, some who have never knitted before, spent their free time sharing patterns and techniques to produce the woollen hats.

Last year’s Big Knit raised over £4,000 for Age UK Oxfordshire, which helped to fund the charity’s Information and Advice Helpline, providing vital support for older people and carers in Oxfordshire during the cold winter months.

Bee Myson, Age UK Oxfordshire’s head of area, added: “We are delighted to work with Sanctuary to support their older residents living in retirement living schemes and in the wider community, and it’s great to hear they are supporting this national campaign.

“Our partnership promotes physical activity and reduces isolation, and we also offer information and communications technology sessions to Sanctuary residents to help them experience the benefits of being online.”
