A new sport and fitness programme in Shiregreen is launching and will give residents the chance to get energised and have fun.
Sanctuary Housing has joined forces with Activity Sheffield (Sheffield City Council) and Sheffield International Venues to bring the community Energise Shiregreen.
The programme will see the delivery of sport and fitness sessions, including zumba, soft play, swimming and football, at the Concord Sports Centre, in Shiregreen Lane, to residents of all ages.
Energise Shiregreen will kick-off with a free fun day for the community on Saturday 16 May between 11am and 2pm at Concord Sports Centre. Activities will then commence from Monday 18 May with the first 12 weeks being free and an optional eight weeks at a reduced cost for those taking part.
The exciting range of activities has been put together following consultation with the local community and tailored to different groups including mothers and babies, adults and young people.
Energise Shiregreen forms part of Sanctuary’s wider Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in four neighbourhoods across the country and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents in sport and fitness activities.
Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sport and activity sessions.
Sophie Lejeune-Peggie, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager for Shiregreen, said: “Following the success of our other local sport and fitness programmes, we are delighted to be able to offer Shiregreen residents this exciting range of activities that will not only get them fit but allow them to have fun in the process.
“In addition to helping people get active, we want them to see the health and well-being benefits associated with these types of programmes, encourage them to increase confidence and develop skills which will help them in the future.”
