The Shiregreen Community Awards is set to get even bigger and brighter thanks to two £1,000 awards from the Rt Hon David Blunkett and Sheffield’s Master Cutler.
The organiser of the Shiregreen Community Awards, Sanctuary Housing, has received the funding from the Rt Hon David Blunkett and Sheffield’s Master Cutler.
Mr Blunkett’s donation of £1,000 will fund an annual prize to the winner of the newly established David Blunkett Community Safety Award.
David Blunkett said: “A community's real strength is in its people. Nothing can be more fundamental than feeling secure and confident in your own home and when walking the streets.
“Recognising the role of those brave enough to confront criminality and anti-social behaviour is just one way of saying ’good on you‘ and encouraging others to take on the thugs who make people's lives a misery.”
The £1,000 donation from the Cutlers’ Company Charitable Trust will be used to fund Love Where You Live days, supporting young people from Shiregreen to get positively involved with their local environment, as well as meeting the cost of places for youngsters attending the annual Shiregreen Awards.
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager for Shiregreen, Sophie Lejeune-Peggie, attended an event at historic Cutler’s Hall on 24 June to receive the cheque from the Cutlers’ Company Charitable Trust. She said: ““Our annual award events are central to rewarding positive participation by community members in their neighbourhood. Each year we have new people being recognised for the contributions they make and new projects being celebrated. Supporting the Master Cutler’s Cultural Ambassadors’ programme with Firth Park Academy in Shiregreen has had many benefits to the wider community and we look forward to participating in future programmes.
“I’d like to thank both Mr Blunkett and the Cutlers’ Company Charitable Trust for their generous donations towards our Shiregreen Community Awards nights.”
