The second year of a sport and fitness programme in Shiregreen is due to launch this month.
Energise Shiregreen, run by Sanctuary Housing in partnership with Sheffield International Venues, Activity Sheffield and Arches School Sports Partnership, will be delivering a range of sports and fitness sessions to residents of all ages, with the new activities starting this month.
Following the success of the first year of the programme, which saw hundreds of people getting involved, Sanctuary is working with local partners, clubs and community groups to organise an even wider variety of activities, including gym and swim, Zumba, badminton and taekwondo.
Residents are invited to a launch day on Saturday 9 January from 10am-2pm at Concord Sports Centre where they can take part in free activities and sign-up to the programme. Activities will then commence in full from Monday 18 January with the first 12 weeks being free of charge, and an optional further 12 weeks for just £15.
Energise Shiregreen forms part of Sanctuary’s wider Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in four neighbourhoods across the country and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents in sport and fitness activities.
Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment.
Graham Nolan, Sanctuary’s head of partnerships, said: “Following the success of last year’s programme, we are really keen to engage with even more Shiregreen residents and encourage them to get involved in a whole host of exciting activities.
“Not only do we hope it will promote improved health and well-being, we hope it will encourage residents to engage with others in the local community and develop skills which will be useful in the future.”
