Silverdale residents come together for fun day

15 September 2015

A fun day packed with exciting activities – organised by Aspire Group thanks to a donation from Sanctuary Group’s Grand Ideas Fund, with main funding from Staffordshire County Council – has been a big hit with Silverdale residents.

Exciting fun day activities

The community fun day, in Silverdale Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, was enjoyed by over 350 local residents, with attractions including a bouncy castle, face painting, storyteller, children’s games and entertainment, a performance from a local dance group, music, a barbecue, refreshment stall and a raffle.

DJ class

On hand to keep the youngsters entertained was a local music teacher who invited them to participate in a DJ class for two hours. The teacher was also entertaining the crowds with music throughout the event.

Alex Phillips, from Aspire Group, said: “Despite a sprinkling of rain there were lots of people in the park enjoying the attractions. This event was just what Silverdale needed and we hope to organise something similar next year and get even greater community involvement. Many of the residents did say we need more events like the fun day so there is obviously scope with the residents for us to do this again.”

Glenys Baxendale, Sanctuary’s housing officer for the area, added: “We aim to invest in community-led projects like this fun day to meet the needs of our residents and their neighbourhoods. There was a great sense of community spirit amongst guests and that is exactly what we aim for.

“It is fantastic to know that the funding we provided has brought residents together and boosted the community confidence around activities like this taking place again in the future.”
