Sport and fitness on offer to Torbay residents

Residents across Torbay are being given the opportunity to get involved in sport and fitness activities following the launch of an exciting new scheme.

Sanctuary Housing and Sport England have teamed up with local groups to bring Love Sport Torbay to the area.

The programme will see a range of exciting sport and fitness sessions open to residents of all ages across the Bay, including Zumba, Tchoukball, Street Football, Dance Fitness and Walking Football.

Sessions have been formed based on feedback from residents with the long-term aim of ensuring the activities continue beyond the programme and are run by residents themselves.

Kicking-off on Monday 20 April, the new project aims to inspire residents to get involved in sport and fitness activities. They will also provide residents with the opportunity to engage with their community by meeting others and developing skills, such as leadership and mentoring.

The programme is part of Sanctuary’s wider Love Sport campaign, which was announced in partnership with Sport England in March 2015, taking place in four neighbourhoods across the country.

Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sport and activity sessions.

Lynne Roberts, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Love Sport Torbay to the area and would encourage everyone to get involved. The project builds on previous fitness programmes supported by Sanctuary and will provide the opportunity for residents of all ages to take part in a range of exciting activities, and see the health and well-being benefits associated with these.”
