St Austell residents are celebrating after their win in the South West in Bloom competition.
Sanctuary Housing residents from Gover Road have been presented with the award in the ‘Thriving’ category of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) It’s Your Neighbourhood campaign, for the creation of a stunning floral display.
Bringing all ages together
Residents worked closely with local children on the green haven, which includes roses and petunias in blooming raised beds and colourful hanging baskets which the youngsters grew from seed.
Sanctuary’s operations manager for the south west, Helen Harding-Bentley, said: “We’re really proud of the Gover Road residents for their achievement. They have worked hard to make a real success of their floral display and it really is eye-catching.”
Earlier this month, Gover Ward Councillor Sandra Heyward received a commemorative certificate on behalf of the residents from St Austell’s Mayor Councillor Brian Palmer.
Cllr Heyward commented: “It looks amazing! This project has brought all ages of the community together and it’s blossomed into something really successful.”
The annual RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood campaign, part of the South West in Bloom initiative, aims to reward volunteer-led community gardening projects which are focused on cleaning and greening up their local area.
