More than 1,600 children and their families have had a summer to remember after taking part in a host of exciting activities across Blacon.

Avenue Services has overseen an extensive and diverse programme of events, supported by Blacon Children’s Centre, Holy Trinity Church, the Chester North police team, Tesco, the Canal and River Trust and local councillor Carol Gahan.

From football and fishing to nature activities and day trips, there has been something for everyone to enjoy in the community.

In addition, more than 600 hot meals were dished up alongside the activities throughout the holiday period at Holy Trinity Church, with 600 packed lunches given out to local children.

More than 200 people took part in nature activities such as bushcraft and den making at Blacon Nature Park, while a further 120 young people tried their hand at angling by taking advantage of a series of fishing taster sessions on the Shropshire Union Canal.

The popular annual Glastonvenny music festival also attracted in excess of 300 families to Blacon Adventure Playground with an additional 100 people putting their fitness to the test during football and street play sessions.

Working with Blacon Police Community Support Officer Joanne Pendry and Robyn Frost from Blacon Children’s Centre, a group of children also enjoyed a two-hour training session at Everton Football Club’s academy, while another group visited the Boneyard Skatepark in Tattenhall.

Paul Knight, Head of Avenue Services, said: “It has been wonderful to see so many people joining in the activities and having fun this summer.

“We work tirelessly with local agencies, partners, volunteers and councillors to make sure there are a wide variety of activities for everyone to enjoy.

“It has been a hugely successful few weeks and we look forward to providing even more fun events over the months ahead.”
