Taste of pop fame for young people in Shiregreen

12 December 2016

Budding pop stars in Shiregreen are getting the chance to produce their own music videos as part of a scheme to get young people on their feet.

Razzamataz Theatre Schools is holding free dance and pop video sessions through the local Energise Shiregreen programme, funded by Sanctuary Housing.

Wanna-be Rihannas and Justin Biebers, aged between nine and 15, can learn a dance routine and lyrics before putting everything together to produce their own music video.

The hour-long weekly sessions take place at Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre, in Westnall Road, from 6 to 7pm on Mondays until the end of February, with a break for Christmas.

Melanie King, Sanctuary Housing’s neighbourhood partnerships manager for Shiregreen, said: “Energise Shiregreen is all about encouraging people to get active, improve their fitness and realise that exercising can be fun. As well as the health benefits of activities such as these sessions, they will provide residents with the opportunity to engage with others from the local community in a positive environment and  fulfil some dreams of starring in their own music video.”

Energise Shiregreen forms part of Sanctuary’s nationwide Love Sport programme, a partnership with Sport England, which aims to engage more than 2,250 people in sport and fitness activities in neighbourhoods across the country.

Sanctuary’s investment in the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sport and activity sessions.

Anyone interested in taking part in the dance and pop video sessions should call 0300 123 3511 or email neighbourhoods@sanctuary-housing.co.uk
