An inclusive action group based in Torquay has received a grant of £9,000 from the National Lottery to help fund its community activities.
Community organisation Chelston Action Group (CAG) completed a detailed bid with support and guidance from Sanctuary Housing, receiving the generous award earlier this month.
CAG, who run a range of groups and events for local people, will use the funding to help set up even more activities for residents to take part in.
Already taking place is a youth club, Toddlers and Tots play sessions, a community café and Zumba classes.
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Lynne Roberts, said: “The projects that CAG organise have a real positive impact on our residents, so it’s fantastic that they are going to be able to extend their reach.
“There are also some rewarding volunteer roles available with CAG which offer residents valuable opportunities.”
CAG’s founder and project leader, Amanda Martin, commented: “We are absolutely thrilled with the grant, it means so much to us and will see us able to reach even more local residents, tackling loneliness and encouraging them to get involved with the community.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Sanctuary; without their support we wouldn’t have been in a position to secure the funding.”
This project is funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
