A free bespoke financial advice and support service is now open across Torbay.
Clear Benefits – which is run by Torbay Advice Network (TAN) and has received £2,000 funding from Sanctuary Housing – is providing a dedicated welfare adviser to work with residents on boosting money management skills and extending advice and support. Sessions can take place in a community setting or in the person’s home. Meetings will provide residents with expert advice tailored to their individual needs in areas such as benefits, maximising income and financial awareness.
In addition, a drop-in service will be on offer every Wednesday at the Windmill Centre’s Chronic Pain Café, while eight volunteers will work from locations across Torquay to help identify and signpost residents to other financial services that can offer them support.
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Lynne Roberts, said: “The distinctive feature about Clear Benefits is that it’s a bespoke service, so it will be customised for each person in terms of where and how they access it, and the advice that’s given.
“It’s the first time we’ve worked with TAN and the Clear Benefits service has great promise, so I would encourage residents to take advantage of the valuable support that is on offer.”
The Clear Benefits drop-in service will be available every Wednesday, 1.30 – 3.30pm at the Chronic Pain Café, Windmill Centre, Pendennis Road, Torquay, TQ2 7QB.

This project is part-funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities. Further funding came from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund and the Windmill Centre in Torquay, who are also assisting with the delivery of Clear Benefits.
