Volunteers’ Week – Lynne’s story

6 June 2018
Lynne Roberts

Making a real difference to the community is what Lynne’s role as neighbourhood partnerships manager for Sanctuary Housing is all about, as she oversees the delivery of more than 30 local projects designed to improve the lives of Torbay residents.

Lynne has built close relationships with partner organisations, providing funding and assistance in line with Sanctuary’s community investment objectives.

The projects supported by Lynne and her team range from sporting initiatives and money management advice to employability boosting sessions and craft clubs, all with one thing in common – to make positive changes for the benefit of the community.

No two days are the same in Torbay, as Lynne explains: “One day I might be involved in a large-scale funding bid, the next attending the launch of a community hub. The variation means that my job is challenging but extremely rewarding!”

It’s more than just a job to Lynne, who can often be found volunteering at local community projects in her spare time.

“Last Christmas Day, my daughter and I cooked a festive lunch for 72 residents, who might otherwise have been on their own,” said Lynne. “It was a tiring but very fulfilling day.”

Some of the projects she has been involved in have led to exciting opportunities. Lynne explained: “As a way of saying thank you for the support, one of our partners invited me to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace. It was a fantastic experience.”
