On the back of England’s victory at the Ashes this summer, Shiregreen Cricket Club has celebrated its own junior team’s success at an annual awards ceremony to mark the achievements of young members, supported by Sanctuary Housing.
Cricket club bowled over
Award winners were bowled over by their prizes, which included accolades for batting, bowling and fielder for each age category as well as on overall junior clubman of the year award.
Wicket cover for cricket club
Sanctuary will be further supporting the club through a £1,000 donation towards a new mobile wicket cover, which will help protect the wicket and allow additional matches to take place so more Shiregreen residents can get involved in sport.
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Sophie Lejeune-Peggie, who joined club members at the ceremony, said: “We have attended the club’s Junior Cricket Awards for the last four years and it’s fantastic to see the sporting achievements of young Shiregreen residents.
“I’m delighted to support such a valuable community-led club which offers a great space for people to come together and get active.”
Mick Claridge from Shiregreen Cricket Club added: “Sanctuary has been invaluable over the years by supporting the awards and providing assistance to the club. The night was a great success and enjoyed by all.”
This project was part-funded by Sanctuary Group’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
