Talbot Gardens, Barne Barton, Regeneration

The vision for a regenerated, modern and thriving Barne Barton estate in Plymouth.

Barne Barton CGI view

Sanctuary Housing is planning a multi-million-pound regeneration of Talbot Gardens on the Barne Barton estate in St Budeaux, Plymouth.

Under the proposals, we will be demolishing ten blocks of maisonettes and replacing them with a mix of high-quality new housing to meet the needs of the local community.

Sanctuary previously managed the 120 homes - located on Talbot Gardens, Savage Road and Roope Close – and completed the purchase of the freehold for the site in December 2019 following overwhelming support for a site regeneration from residents.

We have now launched a second consultation for residents and the wider community. Our exciting new plans have been shaped based on resident feedback and the new proposals include:

  • 94 one-bed and two-bed apartments across 4 apartment buildings with undercover parking;
  • 12 three-bed and four-bed town houses;
  • 8 two-bed maisonettes; and
  • A 60-bed care home.

The accommodation will be predominantly delivered as affordable housing, with a small element of shared ownership and open market units. The design and appearance of the homes has been informed by the character of the local area and the need to respond sensitively to the steep sloping nature of the site, while maximising views.

Where can I see the new plans?

Resident feedback has been vital in helping shape the latest plans for the estate and we are keen to hear your views on these new proposals.

We had planned to hold another public consultation but due to the Covid-19 pandemic this is unfortunately not possible. We are now inviting responses and questions via post, email or via a dedicated website which is being managed by our planning consultants.
