Ten years of Sanctuary Housing’s achievements in Shiregreen have been celebrated with a new colourful commemoration.
To mark a decade of success in Shiregreen, a floral ‘TEN’ has been planted at the corner of Beck Road and Bellhouse Road, designed to enhance the green area.
Sanctuary employees visited the new flower display with Gill Furniss, MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, and local councillors, who had the opportunity to admire the attractive blooms.
Also attending was local resident Maureen Shipley, who has lived in Shiregreen for 53 years. As treasurer of the Friends of Concord Park and Woolley Wood, Maureen has long been committed to improving and enhancing her local environment, and has won a community award for her work.
Ten years of achievements
The last decade has seen a range of accomplishments in Shiregreen through Sanctuary’s £90 million regeneration programme. These have included the refurbishment of 2,500 homes, the Streetscene project aimed at improving Shiregreen’s scenery, and five years of the Shiregreen Community Awards.
Colleen Eccles, Sanctuary’s director of neighbourhoods, said: “The tenth year of regeneration is a special time, and over the past decade we have worked hard to support the development of a successful and sustainable community in Shiregreen.
“We hope that local residents enjoy their eye-catching new floral display, which echoes the incidental green spaces that included Victorian planting and English rose gardens that Shiregreen was known for when it was built. If local residents have any ideas how we can celebrate the 10 year anniversary we would love to hear them.”
MP Gill Furniss added: “It was a great opportunity to chat to Maureen, as well as to see how Sanctuary is working hard to improve green areas for local people.
“Sanctuary’s achievements over the last 10 years have gone a long way to helping Shiregreen become the great place to live and work it is.”
