23 July 2015

Boxing, cricket and running were among the sporting activities on offer to Blacon residents as part of an exciting new sport and fitness programme.

Sanctuary in Chester launch Energise Blacon activities

Sanctuary Housing, Avenue Services and Active Cheshire teamed up to hold a Give it a Go taster day on Tuesday 21 July to launch the Energise Blacon activities.

Summer programme of sport sessions for residents in Blacon

The summer activity programme will deliver a range of low-cost sport and fitness sessions for residents aged 11 and over starting today and running until the last week of August. Activities will include multi-sports at Graham Road Park and Queen Elizabeth Playing Fields on Blacon Avenue, bootcamp sessions at Saxon Way Playing Field, walking football at Blacon High School and beginners circuits at Matthew Henry Church on Nevin Road.

Energise Blacon is part of Sanctuary’s Love Sport programme

Energise Blacon forms part of Sanctuary’s national Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in Blacon and three further Sanctuary neighbourhoods, and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents across the country in sport and fitness activities.

Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment.

Janet Gittins, Avenue Service’s neighbourhoods manager, said: “It was fantastic to see residents of all ages taking part in a wide range of sporting activities. There are a host of low cost activities over the summer to encourage residents in Blacon to get energised.”
