Residents and community groups who help make Blacon a better place to live are to be recognised at an annual awards ceremony.

The Blacon Community Awards, now in its 20th year, celebrate the achievements of people of all ages and backgrounds who make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Nominations are open until 2 June with the presentation evening taking place at Blacon High School on 7 July.

Avenue Services, a joint venture between Sanctuary Group and Cheshire West and Chester Council, are supporting the event, which will honour people in four categories.

The Harold Tomlins Community Award champions residents who are passionate about Blacon and have given their time voluntarily for the benefit of others.

Voluntary groups will be recognised for their efforts in the Community Team Award, while the Kath Evans Young Inspiration Award is for those aged under 21 who have overcome adversity to triumph and be a role model to their peers.

The Blacon Extra Mile Award celebrates people who are employed within the community but have gone above and beyond that role to enhance the lives of residents.

Paul Knight, Head of Avenue Services, said: “For two decades the Blacon Community Awards have been celebrating the achievements of residents and this year promises to be just as successful.

“We look forward to receiving nominations from across the neighbourhood and would encourage everyone to get involved.”
