Childcare volunteering roles on offer at new Bay group

Torbay parents and carers who are interested in future careers in childcare can take part in volunteering opportunities through Chelston Action Group (CAG).

Toddlers and Tots

Sanctuary Housing and CAG have launched the Toddlers and Tots play sessions, which run from 9.30am until 11.30am every Wednesday at St Peter’s Centre, Torquay.

Volunteering roles

The group offers local people the chance to get involved in volunteering roles, where they will be able to help care for the youngsters and learn skills that will be important for future employment.

Come along

Attendees are also welcome to simply bring their children along and enjoy interacting with fellow parents and carers in a safe and supportive environment.

Community café

Running alongside Toddlers and Tots is a community café – which provides healthy, good value meals from 9.30am until 1.30pm – also offering opportunities for residents to volunteer behind the counter.

“Valuable boost to employability”

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Lynne Roberts, said: “The volunteering roles on offer with CAG can give a valuable boost to our residents’ employability, so I would urge as many people as possible to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Consultation with local parents and carers revealed there was a need for this type of group, so we’re really pleased to support it. We’re seeing some real success stories as several of the group’s previous volunteers have gone on to secure employment or earn qualifications.”

“We welcome parents and carers”

CAG’s founder and project leader, Amanda Martin, added: “As well as taking part in volunteering, we welcome parents and carers who would like to find out more about social events happening locally, and we can signpost people to relevant agencies or organisations for further support if needed.”

Torbay Community Stars Awards

Amanda’s dedication to supporting the Torbay community was recognised this month as she won August’s Torbay Community Stars award, run by Sanctuary Housing.

Nominations for the next Torbay Star are now open. Residents can cast their votes online via our nomination form. Nomination forms are available from Great Parks Community Centre and the Crafty Fox Café ‘N’ Hub in Paignton as well as the Acorn Centre in Torquay.
