Hackney jobseekers were given a helping hand onto the careers ladder thanks to an employment event held by Sanctuary Housing.
The Fresh Start event at Morningside Community Centre opened its doors to provide a range of jobs information and advice.
Visitors on the day were able to access local job vacancies, interview technique workshops, CV advice, and how to manage money sessions. A free crèche was provided by Hackney Children’s Centres for those with young children.
Guest at the event commented: “I found the interview skills workshop really fascinating. Some of the topics the trainer talked about I found very helpful for future interviews and I have now put some of the techniques into practice since attending the event. It was really useful and engaging and I really enjoyed listening to the other members of the group as well.
“I found the role play exercise improved my interview skills and I have since attended two interviews putting my new skills into practice.”
Organisations that supported the event included Café Morningside, creative group Rolemop, Hackney CAB (Money Smart Project), Groundwork London, Hackney Council’s Ways into Work, Volunteer Centre Hackney and Jobcentre Plus.
Sanctuary’s partnerships manager, Joanne Revett, said: “Over 180 job details were given out at our last event and we hope this year’s event will be even more successful.
“Supporting our residents and the wider community with looking at ways into work is important to us, and we encourage anyone looking for a job, training or change of career path to come and visit us on the day.”
