A new £4 million housing development in Haddenham has been given the seal of approval by South East Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer.

Ms Frazer paid a visit to the 24 new properties on Northumbria Close to mark the completion of the new homes which have been developed by Sanctuary Group.

New homes

Providing a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership accommodation, the development is located on the northern edge of the village and will bring a welcome boost to rural housing in the area, as well as complement existing properties.

The MP was given a tour of the development, which comprises 11 two-bedroom and 7 three-bedroom houses, 1 four-bedroom home, as well as 3 two-bedroom bungalows and 2 one-bedroom flats.

The properties have been constructed by Sanctuary’s appointed contractor TJ Evers design and build team.

MP Lucy Frazer said: “I was delighted to view Sanctuary’s latest development in East Cambridgeshire and speak to those involved.

“It is important for local people to have access to affordable housing in rural locations and I am sure the residents will enjoy their new homes.”

Chris Cole, Sanctuary’s head of development for the East and South East, added: “We are committed to delivering affordable homes for local people and Northumbria Close is just one example of that. These new properties are a perfect illustration of the work we are doing to address the shortage of affordable housing in rural locations.”

Employment and training

As part of Sanctuary’s commitment to creating employment opportunities, nine trainees and two apprentices were involved in the construction process of the new homes, providing skills such as joinery, bricklaying and roofing.

Supporting the local community

The local community has also benefitted with the refurbishment of the kitchen at Aldreth Village Hall. New units, donated by Magnet, were installed whilst a complete redecoration was also carried out.
