New computer electrical skills sparked for Plymouth residents

Plymouth residents are getting fixed up with PCs and specialist IT skills on a computer electronics course thanks to £1,000 funding from Sanctuary Group.

Collectrical community interest company is offering locals the opportunity to take part in a series of training sessions, which will see them learn the skills needed to repair and upgrade computer hardware. The residents involved in the course will then be able to take home and keep the refurbished PCs.

Sanctuary’s funding has paid for dedicated repair software to be used on the donated computers.


In addition to receiving an upgraded computer and learning new digital skills, course participants will also be able meet new people and develop important life skills such as teamwork and organisation.

Sonia Hall from Collectrical said: “As an organisation, we want to make sure that residents are equipped with essential digital skills, and this project will provide a year-long training programme for residents to build these up.

“Sanctuary’s funding award of £1,000 has been invaluable to our initiative.”

Helen Harding-Bentley, Sanctuary’s operations manager for the south west, added: “Not only are residents able to learn new techniques, but they also have their hard work rewarded by being able to take home their own refurbished computer. I’m delighted we’re able to support community-led projects that benefit local residents such as this.”

The training is open to Plymouth residents of all ages and abilities and takes place at Unit 3, Porsham Close, Roborough, PL6 7DB. Anyone interested in booking a place can email info@collectrical.co.uk.

This project is funded by Sanctuary Group’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
