Shiregreen gardeners are invited to showcase their green spaces through Sanctuary Housing’s Shiregreen Garden Competition 2016.

Blooming gardens

Opening on Monday 25 July, residents are invited to enter photographs of their gardens in three categories – Best Individual Garden, Best Edible Garden and Baskets, Pots and Small Spaces – for the chance to win £30 of gardening vouchers in each group.

Winners will be invited to a presentation later in the year where they will be awarded their prizes.

Last year’s winner

Coming top in one of last year’s competition categories, Greenest Garden, was Janusz Michalak, whose prize-winning patch included features reminiscent of an English country cottage garden.

Janusz said: “I couldn’t believe it when I received the news that I had won in the Garden Competition. I am extremely proud and it is great to know that other people appreciate my garden as much as I do.”

Hard work rewarded

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Melanie King, added: “There are some lovely gardens on show in Shiregreen and it’s great that we’re able to showcase and celebrate our residents’ work in this way.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to support the development of a successful community in Shiregreen and reward the hard work that our residents put in to looking after their homes.”

How to enter

To enter, up to four photographs showing different angles of the garden along with full contact details and relevant category can be emailed to neighbourhoods@sanctuary-housing.co.uk or dropped off at Sanctuary’s office at 36a Beck Road, Shiregreen, Sheffield S5 0GB. Residents who would like more information can contact Melanie King by calling 0114 232 8134.

Entries must be received by Monday 22 August. Winners will be notified via contact details provided and on social media by Friday 9 September.

This competition is funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
