An award-winning Torbay resident who has been recognised for her inspirational community work is inviting local people to get involved with the Chelston Action Group (CAG).
Chelston Action Group
Sanctuary Housing resident Amanda Martin founded CAG in 2013 to provide positive activities for community members, which now include a Wednesday Café, Zumba fitness sessions, a youth club and a toddler group. CAG has also organised a Christmas Day meal for residents who may otherwise be alone.
Contribution to the Bay
Amanda’s contribution to the Bay community was first recognised in 2016, when CAG scooped the Partnership accolade at Sanctuary’s Torbay Community Star Awards.
She was also a popular nominee for Tenant of the Year in the TPAS Awards in February of this year, as well as being successfully shortlisted in the Friendly Community Together category at this month’s Devon Community Honours.
“Amanda’s community work is so valued”
Lynne Roberts, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, said: “Despite suffering from ill health and being unable to work full-time, Amanda has been instrumental in setting up CAG and the recognition she has had just goes to show how much her community work is valued.
“Amanda continues to work hard for the benefit of local people and CAG is going from strength-to-strength – it’s a group that we are very proud to support. I would urge residents to get involved in the activities that the group organise, as well as being lots of fun there are great opportunities to meet neighbours and build up new skills.”
“It’s a privilege to be recognised”
Amanda added: “I am very passionate about making Chelston the best place it can possibly be. Although I didn’t start CAG to receive awards, it’s a privilege to be recognised for the difference a group like CAG can make to local residents.
“We are keen to see as many people as possible join the group.”
