Torbay communities who have made exceptional contributions to their neighbourhoods have been celebrated at Sanctuary Housing’s first Torbay Community Star Awards at The Palace Hotel in Torquay.
Local people cast nominations for Torbay individuals and groups in seven categories, including Neighbourhood Champion, Community Spirit, Green Heroes and Lifetime Contribution to the Community.
A charity raffle, with prizes including a computer tablet, a luxury hamper and a magnum of champagne, raised nearly £500 with funds going to Torbay Hospital League of Friends for their Critical Care Unit Appeal.
Guests were entertained by magician Dan Brazier and local artists Riviera Sound, as well as putting on their dancing shoes for a disco later in the evening. The awards were generously sponsored byTorbay Community Development Trust, Hele’s Angels and The Palace Hotel.
Tracey Cabache from Torbay Community Development Trust said: “The Torbay Community Development Trust was thrilled to support Sanctuary’s first Torbay Community Star Awards. Torbay residents are passionate about their local area and many give their time to make the Bay a great place to live. The awards ceremony provided a fantastic opportunity for the stars of our neighbourhoods to celebrate their achievements, and be thanked for their work in their communities. Well done Sanctuary!”
Sanctuary’s director of neighbourhoods, Colleen Eccles, added: “All of our community partners in Torbay devote so much of their time to making their neighbourhood a great place, and I’m delighted that this evening we were able to recognise their dedication.”
This event was funded by Sanctuary Group’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
